TOOELE, Utah — A “test to stay” protocol is being implemented at Tooele High School due to an outbreak of COVID-19 cases.
Amy Bate, public information officer for the Tooele County Health Department, said more than 50 cases of the virus have been reported at the school.
A letter was sent out to parents Tuesday afternoon, saying the high school had reached the two percent threshold for positive cases.
Due to the increase, a “test to stay” protocol will go into effect, beginning on Thursday.
“All students and staff members will participate in the test to stay whether vaccinated or not. This also includes students and staff in the 90 day window,” read the letter.
Students and staff will need a negative test result in order to return to school.
Officials said the school needs permission from the student’s parent or guardian before their child can be tested for COVID-19.
Parents can also opt their child out of the testing, “but opting their student out will require them to be out of school for 10 calendar days,” read a statement from Bate.
