SALT LAKE CITY — Gabby Petito’s family spoke publicly for the first time since they learned about their daughter’s murder.
Family members and family attorney Richard Stafford held a press conference Tuesday in New York.
They talked about how Petito was a bright light in everyone’s life and they want to share that light with everyone.
That’s why they are starting a foundation in her honor to help families find loved ones who are missing.
The Petitos thanked the media and millions of people who helped spread the word about her disappearance on social media.
That influence they said should be granted to all families who are looking for lost relatives.
They believe the Gabby Petito Foundation can do a lot of good across the world.
“I just hope people are inspired by her … and it’s hard to put into words it means a lot to me that she touched so many lives already … and I’m so proud of her and were going to keep her light going and help a lot of people,” said Nicole Schmidt, Petito’s mother.
Petito’s family members also showed off tattoos designed by their daughter.
They read, “Let it be” and “Believe.”
Her mother said it’s her way of keeping Petito with her always.
The family avoided questions regarding the manhunt for Brian Laundrie – a person of interest in the case who remains missing.
When asked about Laundrie’s parents and if they’re helping to track him down.
Stafford said they didn’t help us find Gabby and they won’t help them find Brian. He also told Brian to turn himself in.
