WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah — One man was killed in a shooting outside a West Valley City home Monday morning, according to authorities.

Roxanne Vainuku, public information officer for the West Valley City Police Department, said officers responded to the area of 3800 South and 4200 West after receiving reports of two gunshots being fired and a man lying on the ground.

Emergency crews arrived and pronounced the man dead on scene.

Vainuku said police do not have any suspect information at the moment but “officers are working very quickly” to interview witnesses and residents of the house where the victim was located.

No shelter-in-place order has been given because officers do not believe the suspect remained in the area and they do not believe there is any ongoing threat to the public.

Ben Horsely, Granite School District spokesperson, said the district has not activated any emergency protocols at Philo T. Farnsworth Elementary School, which is one block away from where the shots were fired.

Classes at the school will begin on time at 9 a.m. Monday.

“As you are likely aware, there is some police activity and an investigation that has closed 3800 S. We would encourage you to avoid that area,” Farnsworth Elementary staff wrote in a Facebook post. “This is not impacting our operations and police have assured us that there is no danger. However, there is an increased police presence in the area and at our school as a precautionary measure. School will begin on time and we hope to see you soon.

“Thanks for your patience and support as we work to keep our students and staff safe.”
