Authorities release dash cam video of deadly pursuit in Rose Park
NORTH SALT LAKE — Police have released dash cam video of the pursuit that turned into a deadly crash Saturday in a Salt Lake City neighborhood.
The video shows the suspect vehicle, a pickup truck, speeding along Interstate 15, then through the Rose Park neighborhood, as an officer with the North Salt Lake Police Department followed close behind.
As the truck travels through an intersection, it T-bones a car, causing the truck to flip.
The incident began around noon when the North Salt Lake Police Department was notified about a possible drunk driver that was driving erratically.
When officers spotted the truck and tried to stop it, the vehicle fled.
“The vehicle fled onto I-15, then southbound,” said NSLPD Sgt. Mitch Gwilliam. “Ultimately exited into Salt Lake City.”
A short time later, the truck crashed into an uninvolved vehicle carrying two passengers in the area of 1200 West and 500 North.
Thy Hoang Vu, 33, was killed, according to police, while the second occupant of that car was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Gwilliam said the two men in the pickup truck were injured in the collision as well.
Just before 7 p.m. Tuesday, police said 39-year-old Christian Cody Facer was arrested in connection to the fatal crash.
SLCPD’s press release stated, “After the crash, paramedics transported Facer to an area hospital in serious condition. He remained under guard by law enforcement due to the ongoing criminal investigation. Facer was immediately arrested by the SLCPD on October 19, 2021 after doctors released him from the hospital.”
Police said Facer will be booked into the Salt Lake County Jail for investigation of several charges, including failure to respond to an officer’s signal to stop — resulting in death or serious bodily injury, criminal automobile homicide, driving under the influence, and reckless driving, among others.
