TOOELE COUNTY, Utah — One person was killed in a crash on the newly-completely Midvalley Highway in Tooele County Saturday morning, according to officials with the Utah Highway Patrol.
UHP Lt. Cody McCoy said a Dodge Durango failed to stop at the new intersection where the Midvalley Highway and Parachute Lane meet and was struck by a cement truck that was driving north on the highway.
The male driver of the Durango was killed in the crash while the driver of the cement truck was taken to an area hospital with minor injuries.

McCoy urged drivers to slow down, follow signs and avoid distractions when approaching the new traffic pattern.

Local drivers said some people aren’t noticing the stop sign on Parachute Lane until the last minute.
Utah Department of Transportation spokesperson John Gleason said crews added additional warning signs and digital displays in both directions, urging people to pay attention and slow down.
“In this case, we’ve added some additional signs,” he said. “You know, anytime you have a new highway or new intersection, there’s a little bit of an adjustment period, too.”
Those changes will include:
-
Installing a stop sign with a blinking LED light border
-
Painting “STOP” messages on the pavement ahead of the signs
-
Placing reflective material on the stop sign post to increase visibility
-
Adding signage to indicate a T intersection ahead
He said the highway was built to current safety standards, and UDOT will continue to keep an eye on how things go out in the area, hoping the road will serve as more of a solution than a problem.
