Three arrested after SLC fight, shooting that injured three

SALT LAKE CITY — Three people are in custody and police are investigating after a fight and subsequent shooting injured three.
Officials with the Salt Lake City Police Department said the incidents occurred around 2 a.m. Saturday near 39 East Exchange Place.
Officers were already in the area when they heard the fight followed by gunshots coming from a parking garage.
Authorities said police located a 34-year-old man who had been shot, a 25-year-old man who had been stabbed and a 34-year-old man who had been physically assaulted.

Officers rendered first aid to the victims, who were taken to area hospitals with injuries that were not considered life-threatening. Police said the three victims were in stable condition.
“Patrol officers from all three SLCPD patrol divisions and members of the SLCPD Gang Unit, who were already on duty, responded to the scene to help with the investigation and to ensure the crime scene remained secured,” officials said.
Investigators said the suspected shooter is among the three people who have been taken into custody and the disturbance is still under investigation.
“Anyone with information or photos or video that captured the moments leading up to, during and after the disturbance, and who have not already talked with police, should call 801-799-3000 and reference case No. 21-204727.”
One of the arrestee’s was identified in court documents as 23-year-old Uelese Alofoisio Tone.
Police said interviews were conducted with several witnesses who provided video evidence of the attack, which showed Tone assaulting one of the victims at their car.
“The video evidence shows Tone and other suspects hitting the victim. The victim was knocked unconscious and was taken to the hospital with face and head injuries,” read the document.
Satago Lilio, 30, could also be seen assaulting that same victim, according to court documents.
The third arrestee, identified as 30-year-old Daru Tavita Taumua, used a handgun during the attack.
“Daru Taumua can be seen with a group of people running around a vehicle in the parking garage. Daru is identified on video firing 3 rounds from a handgun at the direction of two other subjects… who are seen running away from Daru,” read the probable cause statement.
The three men were booked into the Salt Lake County Jail Saturday afternoon for investigation of aggravated assault, a third-degree felony.
Taumua is also facing a charge of felony discharge of a firearm.
