DRAPER, Utah – After discovering his pizza order wasn’t ready, a man threatened to beat up an employee and later returned and fired a gun through the Draper store’s window, according to police.
Employees first called police to the Papa John’s Pizza store on 12300 South and 767 East around 7 p.m. Sunday to report two angry customers.
“Two men came in, they were upset because their online pizza order didn’t get filled,” said Lt. Dustin Willie with the Draper Police Department. “They started making a scene and yelling at the employees.”
The store employee explained to the men that the computer system was down and that orders were not showing up.
“He told the two males he did not have their order but began attempting to accommodate them by offering to have them place an order in the store,” police wrote in an affidavit of probable cause.
The men left while the employee was on the phone with police dispatch.
“About an hour later, one of those two men returned to the Papa John’s and started firing shots through the front glass,” Willie said.
Two of the three workers were inside the store at the time of the shooting, police said. They dropped to the floor and crawled to safety in a back office and bathroom. One of them suffered cuts when flying glass hit him in the face, police said.
“They were just scared and couldn’t believe what happened,” Willie said.
The third employee was outside the back of the store on break when he heard the gunshots. He told police he saw a dirt bike drive past the building.
“He just pulled up on the dirt bike and started to shoot,” Willie said.
Police detectives located four shell casings and found bullet holes in the walls inside the store, the affidavit stated.
They searched the area and found the men standing near a dirt bike inside a detached garage of a nearby home.
“The officer described the muffler as being hot on the white and blue dirt bike, indicating that it had been running very recently,” the affidavit said.
After receiving a search warrant, police said that one of the men’s hands tested positive for gunshot residue.
Police arrested 32-year-old Paul Fracasso on suspicion of felony discharge of a firearm in the direction of a person and aggravated assault.
Police also report finding a handgun and matching ammunition in Fracasso’s car.
“Complete overreaction to the mistake in the pizza order, obviously,” Willie said. “He fired four bullets into a restaurant. That could be four people’s lives.”
The Papa John’s store was closed Monday for cleanup.
