Amazon unveils first sub-same day delivery station in SLC
SALT LAKE CITY — Amazon unveiled its first sub-same day delivery fulfillment warehouse in Utah Thursday morning.
The 15,000-square-foot warehouse will employ 250 full- and part-time positions and allow some Amazon Prime customers in the region to receive their orders in as little as five hours.
Officials said Amazon’s sub-same day warehouses “serve as mini-fulfillment centers, optimized for delivering hundreds of thousands of items with ultra-fast, same-day delivery speed.”
“The idea behind this is giving our customers the experience to go from click to delivery in five hours or less,” said Amazon site leader Steve Volk. “So, with this fulfillment center, we’ll now fulfill and deliver out of one building and deliver directly to our customers’ doors.”
With the new Salt Lake City location, Prime customers can order from 3 million items across a dozen categories, including baby, beauty & health, kitchen & dining, electronics, pet supplies and more and receive sub-same day shipping.
Volk added this expansion will enable more opportunities for Amazon Flex drivers, who use their own vehicles and can choose work that fits their schedule while delivering same-day packages for Amazon.
“Our employees will be part of making history with this first-of-its-kind facility in Salt Lake City. Amazon associates will join a high-energy team with opportunities to contribute across several roles,” Volk said. “From operating equipment and packing customer orders to counting inventory and helping build and dispatch deliveries, our employees will have countless opportunities to learn new roles and build critical job skills while enjoying flexible work schedules.”
Starting pay at the new facility, located at 6338 West and 700 North in Salt Lake City, begins at $15.50. Job candidates must be 18 years or older and have a high school diploma or the equivalent.
