One dead after SLC shooting; police searching for suspect

SALT LAKE CITY — Police are investigating a shooting that left one man dead in Salt Lake City Friday morning.
Authorities said the shooting happened around 1 a.m. at a Maverik gas station at 310 South and 900 East.
Officers with the Salt Lake City Police Department arrived on scene within four minutes and took over life-saving efforts but said the victim, an adult male, died on scene.
“Based on the preliminary investigation, detectives believe the victim died as the result of at least one gunshot wound,” police said. “The shooting appears to stem from some sort of isolated altercation between the victim and suspect.”
Witnesses told police the suspect immediately fled the scene after the shooting, and officers were still attempting to locate the suspect.
Authorities did not identify the victim and released four photos of the suspect.
Anyone with information on his identity or whereabouts was asked to call 801-799-3000 immediately and reference case No. 21-226389.
Police said they believe this was an isolated incident and there is no ongoing threat to the public.
