Spider-Man smashes Cinemark box office records

PLANO, Texas–Friendly, neighborhood Spider-Man returned to the screen this week in Sony’s new Spider-Man: No Way Home movie, breaking the U.S. box office record of best opening night of all time according to Cinemark Holdings, Inc. Cinemark said ticket sales for the movie skyrocketed in advance sales through the opening date with many fans returning for the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Moviegoers flocked to our theatres last night to experience Spider-Man: No Way Home in a state-of-the-art cinematic environment, setting multiple Cinemark all-time records,” said Justin McDaniel, Cinemark SVP of Global Content. “The sheer volume of people who came to see this film on the biggest screen, many for the first time since the pandemic, underscores the irreplaceable value of the in-theatre experience, which we are thrilled to continue to offer in collaboration with our studio partners. Congratulations to the entire Sony team for a remarkable opening performance for their latest blockbuster.”
In addition, XD ticket sales were record high for the Spider-Man movie, showing that many fans wanted the full immersive experience. Not only were the sales a hit, but according to ratings, the movie’s been deemed a success as well with a rating of 9.2 out of 10 from IMDb and 95% on Rotten Tomatoes.
