CACHE COUNTY, Utah — State troopers say one person was critically injured in a crash that temporarily closed southbound U.S. Highway 89/91 in Sardine Canyon.
Authorities said the crash happened around 10:40 a.m. Thursday when a semi-truck lost control and jackknifed, blocking all southbound lanes.
Sgt. Cameron Roden with the Utah Highway Patrol said there was low visibility in the area due to high winds and blowing snow.
One car was able to avoid the semi-truck but a Nissan Pathfinder crashed into the truck’s trailer.
Roden said a 53-year-old woman was hospitalized in critical condition.
Emergency crews originally closed both directions of U.S. 89/91 and reopened northbound lanes around 11:15 a.m.
All southbound lanes reopened early Thursday afternoon.
