SPANISH FORK, Utah — A small plane crashed into a building near the Spanish Fork Municipal Airport Friday afternoon, seriously injuring a 77-year-old man.

Video from Chopper 5 shows an aircraft that has broken into several pieces on top of a building near 185 East and 1600 North.

Officials with the Spanish Fork Police Department said police, fire, and EMS personnel were dispatched to Mountain Country Foods just after 12:45 p.m. Friday.

Police said there was only one person inside the single-engine plane, a 77-year-old man. He was extricated from the plane and then flown to a local hospital in critical condition.

“(He) does not appear to have life-threatening injuries,” police wrote in a press release.

The plane caused damage to the roof of the warehouse, according to police, but an exact estimate of damages was not immediately available.

“Several employees were in the warehouse at the time of the accident but were uninjured,” the press release stated.

The crash is under investigation by the Federal Aviation Administration.

Between 2012 and December 2019, six crashes at/near the airport were reported to the National Transportation Safety Board.
