Bingham wrestling coach arrested for alleged sexual conduct with student

SOUTH JORDAN, Utah— A wrestling coach at Bingham High School is in custody after allegedly having an inappropriate relationship with a student.
The coach was identified in court records as 29-year-old Jordan Wanlass.
According to the documents the school resource officer was informed of the sexual misconduct from another administrator who said that multiple wrestlers said one of their coaches was doing “inappropriate things” with a female student.
These wrestlers were brought into the office where they told the resource officer that this female student told them she had been in a relationship with Wanlass and told them through snapchat that she had bought him new wrestling shoes. The wrestlers also said the girl sent a message about “the coach having a bad marriage and that she was helping him through it.” In addition, the girl told the boys on snapchat that she had been involved in a sexual act with Wanlass in the equipment closet at Bingham High court documents state.
At that point, school administrators questioned the girl about the alleged events. Court documents state “[the girl] was not forth coming with the information but her parents gave school administrators permission to take her phone and look through it to confirm the relationship between their daughter and the coach.”
School administrators looked through her snapchat and found sexual conversations between the two along with explicit photographs sent to Wanlass.
A warrant was secured by law enforcement to look through the student’s phone and found explicit photos and videos of Wanlass in a folder on her Snapchat.
Wanlass will face charges of sexual exploitation of a minor, unlawful sexual conduct, dealing in materials harmful to a minor, and enticing a minor by internet or text.
Jordan District released the following statement about Wanlass stating, “[Wanlass] was an assistant coach and is no longer an employee of Jordan School District. Any additional questions would have to go to police who are investigating.”
