SALT LAKE CITY— The newest Ute fan was born Tuesday. Claire Ivy Montague was born on Feb. 22 at 2:22 a.m.
For the world, it’s just a cool date. 2/22/22 is a palindrome date meaning it’s exactly the same backwards and forwards. To University of Utah fans and students, the number 22 is something really special.

According to Claire’s father, Brandon Montague, his wife, Allyson, received an unexpected phone call Monday evening from the Utah Valley Hospital. They asked if Brandon and Allyson could come in that night, to start her induction rather than the following day.
“We decided to come in last night and we got to the hospital around 9:30 P.M. My wife was already progressing before the hospital staff started her induction,” Brandon said.
From there things began to move pretty quickly. At 2:10 a.m. the doctor had Allyson start pushing.
“We made the joke that it would be neat if the baby was born at 2:22 a.m.,” Brandon said. “Our OB [obstetrician] told us we could wait an extra couple minutes to start pushing to see if we could get the 2:22 time.”
Then the baby arrived. Baby Claire was born at 2:22 a.m. on 2/22/22.
“Clair Ivy Montague weighing 7 pounds 7 ounces and 20 inches long came into this world at 2:22 A.M. making us a family of 4. We can’t wait to introduce her to her big brother Brooks who is 20 months older,” Brandon said.
But for a family of Ute fans, the 22 number has additional meaning.
“As a Utah fan, obviously the number 22 has a lot of significance to the Utah Athletic Program in regards to Aaron Lowe and Ty Jordan. The Utah Football Team preaches about family and being all in,” Brandon said. “We think it is really unique to be able to share the number 22 with the Utah Football Family and it’s reminder to be 22% better everyday in life.”
