Church announces groundbreaking for 3 US temples; Ephraim temple rendering released

SALT LAKE CITY — The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints announced ground will be broken on the Smithfield Utah Temple on Saturday, June 18, and released a rendering of the Ephraim Utah Temple.
Friday’s announcement also included groundbreaking dates for the Yorba Linda California Temple (also June 18) and the Burley Idaho Temple (Saturday, June 4).
All three temples were announced by Church President Russell M. Nelson during the April 2021 general conference.
Ephraim Utah Temple rendering
A rendering of the Ephraim Utah Temple, which was announced during a Manti Area Special Broadcast in May, was also released Friday. The temple will be built on a 9.16-acre site located at the intersection of 200 North and 400 East.
Smithfield Utah Temple
The Smithfield Utah Temple will be built on a 13.3-acre site at the intersection of 800 West and 100 North.
Elder Quentin L. Cook of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles will preside at the event. He will be accompanied by fellow Apostle, Elder Gary E. Stevenson.
Current plans call for a three-story building of approximately 83,000 square feet at the site. The Smithfield Utah Temple is one of 28 temples announced, under construction, under renovation or in operation in Utah.
Temples have been announced or are currently under construction in Ephraim, Heber Valley, Layton, Lindon, Orem, St. George (Red Cliffs), Saratoga Springs, Syracuse, Taylorsville and Tooele (Deseret Peak).

Yorba Linda California Temple
The Yorba Linda California Temple will be the Golden State’s ninth temple, joining the Fresno, Los Angeles, Newport Beach, Oakland, Redlands, Sacramento and San Diego California temples. The Feather River California Temple is under construction.
Elder Mark A. Bragg of the Quorum of the Seventy will preside at the groundbreaking ceremony, which is scheduled for Saturday, June 18.
The temple will be built on a 5.4-acre site located at the intersection of Bastanchury Road and Osmond Street in Yorba Linda, California.
Current plans call for a single-story building of approximately 30,000 square feet. California is home to approximately 750,000 Latter-day Saints in more than 1,200 congregations.
Burley Idaho Temple
Elder Brent H. Nielson of the Quorum of the Seventy will preside at the groundbreaking ceremony for the Burley Idaho Temple, which is scheduled for Saturday, June 4.
The temple will be built on a 10.1-acre site located at 40 South and 150 East.
Current plans call for a two-story structure that will be approximately 38,600 square feet.
This will be Idaho’s seventh temple, following the Boise, Idaho Falls, Meridian, Rexburg and Twin Falls Idaho temples. The Pocatello Idaho Temple is currently under construction.
Idaho is home to over 460,000 Latter-day Saints in more than 1,000 congregations.
