A remote spot in the Bear River Mountains of Utah recorded the lowest temperature in the U.S. Thursday at a whopping -48 degrees Fahrenheit.
Peter Sinks is a natural sinkhole in the Bear River Mountains that sits at 8,100 feet above sea level. Peter Sinks is known for low temperatures and is actually tracked through Utah State University’s Utah Climate Center here.
By 1 p.m. Thursday, the lowest temperature was recorded at -48 degrees Fahrenheit.
Thursday’s warmest temperature was 91 degrees, set at Big Cypress Reservation, Florida — a spread of 139 degrees.
