Draper police are dealing with these cases all over town. They believe it all comes from a social media trend where they shoot strangers with what are called orbeez guns, which shoot gel pellets.
Six teens have already been arrested, but police are still looking for suspects in two concerning cases — one where teens, wearing airsoft masks, walked into a restaurant and started shooting people.
Another situation where police say a man and woman boxed the teens in with their cars after people were shot in a shopping center parking lot.
Police say the man pointed a real gun at one teen, while the woman punched the teen in the face. Detectives would like to talk with everyone involved in that confrontation.
One woman told KSL TV she was shot in the back of the head while running, and at first, she thought it was a real gun.
“When someone’s life is threatened, and you have that fear, it’s not okay and it’s time to maybe talk to these kids and remind them of gun safety,” Kris said.
Kris was shot while walking her dogs near a Draper trailhead. We’ve heard about many similar cases all over the Wasatch Front over the past couple of months.
Police are urging parents to talk to their children and warn them of potential consequences.
