LOS ANGELES — Police are searching for the driver who crashed a rented Tesla and fled the scene following a “dangerous stunt.”
Video released by the Los Angeles Police Department showed the incident, which was recorded by several spectators who posted it to several social media accounts.
Police said the 2018 Tesla Model S crashed into two parked cars and several trash cans at the intersection of Baxter Street and Alvarado Street around 12:10 a.m. Sunday.
“There is currently no description of the driver, and the Tesla was abandoned at the scene,” police said. “A misdemeanor hit-and-run was completed, and detectives will be following up with the renter.”
Police said they have received dozens of several tips from the public and were working to interview various persons of interest.
However, the driver still remained at large as of Monday morning. A $1,000 reward has been established for information leading to the offender’s identification, apprehension and conviction or resolution through a civil compromise.
