ROY, Utah — After more than 50 years the owners of a well-known produce stand say it is time to walk away.
Sacco’s is well known for its iconic sign, just west of Interstate 15 in Roy, but for its customers, it means so much more than that. But the owners say they their passion is with the produce stand but it requires all of their time and it is simply time to retire.
“Uh, yeah, it’s kind of bittersweet,” owner Dominic Sacco said. The couple is making sure the sign is staying put, something the new owners have agreed to.
Dominic Sacco has been running the place for 40 years, his wife Candi Sacco has joined him for the last 30, this after Carlo Sacco starting selling produce door to door, 75 years ago.
Carlo Sacco eventually bought the land where the produce stand sits today, and built the stand. The owners say they love their customers and know. many by name, but they said it is time to travel, go fishing or maybe take up golfing.
“No one wants to give up anything that they’ve had ties to; it’s a family. We’ve ran it alone for the past 10 years or so,” Candi Sacco said.
April 23 will be the last day they run the place. The Sacco’s said the new owners are a farming family.
