One person killed in Salt Lake City hit and run crash

SALT LAKE CITY – Police said a vehicle hit and killed a person Saturday night in Salt Lake City in a hit and run, but the driver later returned to the scene.
Witnesses told police the victim was in a wheelchair.
It happened at 800 South West Temple around 8:40.
Salt Lake Police said the driver fled the scene but returned to the area around 11 p.m. with some family members.
A short time ago, the involved driver returned to the crash scene with the vehicle. Our investigations team will process that vehicle to determine the point of impact and speed of the vehicle.

Officers confiscated the vehicle.
Witnesses told police that the victim was crossing West Temple. Police said officers started CPR but it wasn’t successful and the victim died on the scene.
He was identified Sunday afternoon as 65-year-old Martin Minteer.

Police said the driver “remains cooperative with the investigation.”
A decision on whether to charge the driver will be made at a later time after investigators consult with the Salt Lake County District Attorney.
Police said this has already been the ninth traffic-related fatality in Salt Lake City this year.
