BEAVER, Utah — Beaver County authorities have issued a warning about gun safety after they received reports of a student with a gun outside Beaver High School on Monday.
Deputies with the Beaver County Sheriff’s Office said a witness reported seeing a teen point what they believed was a semi-automatic pistol at another teen.
The two reportedly entered the high school, and officers from multiple departments responded to the building.
Deputies said the two were quickly located and apprehended, and the reported pistol was a plastic airsoft gun.
County officials said the kids could now face criminal charges, which are pending.
“There have been 21 school shootings within our nation, this year alone and over 113 since 2018. This is not a joking matter,” said Beaver County Sheriff Cameron Noel. “We are grateful for the way this turned out today and hope to never relive what some communities have had to endure. We are grateful for the training we have had with our school employees and first responders. Please take time to communicate with your children about this very serious matter.”
