Community offers $5,000 reward in Draper double murder

DRAPER, Utah – A $5,000 reward is now offered for information that leads to an arrest in a double murder in Draper last weekend.

The shooting killed two men outside of a house party.

Before the shooting that left two dead outside a house party in Draper, a different party was underway downtown.

“We caught up on his business that he wanted to bring in,” said Whitman Worthlin. His friend, Austin Powell was one of the men killed in the shooting. “He was someone who always gave back and he was looking to give back in big ways here in Utah.”

He ran into Powell recently. Powell was back in town after spending time in California and the Northwest.

Worthlin said, “He was hyper-positive, very focused and was full of love.”

That’s why the shooting was so jarring. You can hear the gunshots in one of the surveillance videos police released.

The second victim Jonathan July Fuentes, 21, was rushed to the hospital following Sunday morning’s shooting. He died Monday.

“I didn’t know the names of the individuals that were killed, that were murdered, until this morning, and then seeing it just really struck a chord with me,” Worthlin explained.

Powell died on the scene and the ‘why’ of such an awful chain of events remains elusive today.

Wirthlin described his friend, “He’s a good guy who loves style, he loves cars, he loves his Tesla, and so I think somebody just saw an opportunity.”

As police seek the suspected shooter, apparently a man with 801 tattooed above his eyebrow, community members have anonymously put together a $5,000 reward for information leading to an arrest.

Wirthlin said, “I think it’s going to be easier for the individual that did this to come forward now rather than continue to run. And the community wants some justice here.”

Worthlin hoped police will make an arrest soon following such a senseless act.

“It’s a shame that someone with that much potential, like on his way, he was there, to be removed from the community in such a brutal way,” Worthlin said.

Detectives described the suspect as a man with a stocky build, tattoos on his face and a tattoo of 801 over one of his eyebrows.

Anybody with information should call Draper Police.
