ROY, Utah — A woman was treated at a hospital after she was struck by a bullet while at a house party and three men were booked into jail, suspected of firing multiple shots at the party.
Police followed, and then stopped, a black Dodge Charger, called in to dispatch as the suspected getaway vehicle of those firing the shots outside the Roy, Utah gathering. Police said four individuals were taken into custody and interviewed after a high-risk stop. Officers at the scene of the stop observed bullet holes in the vehicle while other officers interviewed people at the residence who described events around the firing of shots.
It was reported to dispatch that multiple people were running and multiple vehicles left the area after the shots.Police found multiple shell casings at the party.
Arrested where Mikel Francis Henry Smith, 21, Emaij Williams, 18, and 36-year-old Charles Richard Santos. A juvenile girl was driving the car, and was taken into custody but with no arrest recorded on court documents.
One officer at the traffic stop could see the handle of a handgun under the front seat after the stop. Warrants were obtained and used to search the home and car.
Police located two guns in the car, matching the description given by witnesses at the home that described a cream-colored and black handgun. A witness told police a white man with a ponytail was standing near the sidewalk of the home and pulled out two guns and then fired them toward the home.
Court documents state that the men showed up at the party and were asked to leave multiple times. There was said to be a verbal argument that proceeded the shots that were fired.
Documents said Smith was convicted of a felony gun possession charge with a protective order stating that he cannot possess firearms. Weber County Attorney’s Office told police that Williams was also restricted from keeping firearms because of felony adjudication as a juvenile in 2021.
Santos was out on pre-trial release for a robbery and assault charge from Farmington, Utah.
The woman who was shot was treated at a local hospital and was able to talk with police. Her current medical condition is not known but she was said to have been shot in the buttock.
The three men were arrested on multiple counts of suspicion of felony discharge of a firearm. It was requested Santos not be released on bail since he is awaiting trial on other charges when it is suspected he was involved in the shooting. Bail was not mentioned in court documents for the other two suspects.
