ST. GEORGE, Utah — Officer Talbot with the St. George Police Department responded to a unique call Sunday after a minivan picked up an unexpected hitchhiker.
Police say the van was heading southbound on Interstate 15 when a hawk flew up from the center grassy median near the St. George Blvd. exit and got stuck between the van’s roof and rooftop cargo carrier.
Officer Talbot arrived and pulled the hawk out from under the cargo carrier and held it until crews from the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources to check out the bird.
Biologists said the hawk was unharmed and they transported it to a safer area and released it.
