Suspect in stolen car assaults SLC officer, is in custody

SALT LAKE CITY – A 28-year-old man is in custody after police say he drove a stolen car and assaulted an officer on Wednesday morning.
According to the Salt Lake City Police Department press release, its officers stopped a stolen vehicle in a hotel parking lot near 1900 West, North Temple.
When officers approached the vehicle and attempted to take the suspect into custody, he refused to identify himself and assaulted an officer police said. Another officer then Tased the suspect and placed him in custody without further incident.

Police later identified the suspect as Hung Nguyen. He was booked on suspicion of:
- Possession of a Stolen Vehicle,
- Possession of a Dangerous Weapon by a Restricted Person,
- Failure to Stop at the Command of a Police Officer,
- Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and
- Interference with Arresting Officer.
Police said that the assaulted officer has a minor injury and was released from the hospital.
No injuries were reported for Nguyen.
