QUILCENE, Wash. — Firefighters helped rescue a California woman who fell into an outdoor toilet while trying to recover her cell phone.
Crews from the Brinnon Fire Department and Quilcene Fire & Rescue responded to the restroom in a parking lot near Mount Walker in Washington’s Olympic National Forest Tuesday afternoon after the woman called 911.
Firefighters said it appears the woman dropped her phone into the vault while using the toilet. She then dismantled the seat and housing to try and reach her phone using her dog’s leashes.
“Eventually, she took the leashes to help support herself, which failed, and she slid into and fell into the vault head first,” firefighters said in a Facebook post.
About 15 minutes later, the woman used her phone to call 911.
“Upon arrival, they found the woman as described,” firefighters said.
Crews made a makeshift cribbing platform that they passed down to the woman and helped pull her to safety. She was washed down and given a Tyvek suit to wear.
The woman told firefighters she was uninjured, and authorities said she was extremely fortunate not to be overcome by toxic gases or sustain injury.
