MURRAY, Utah – A frontrunner fatally hit a 20-year-old man as he ignored safety signals on Saturday night.
According to Utah Transit Authority PIO Carl Arky, Eryx Lynch was delivering pizza on his bicycle and waited for the first frontrunner to go by on the overpass of 4500 S around 7:30 p.m.
However, after the first train passed, he tried crossing while the safety signals were still active and was hit by a second frontrunner going the opposite direction.
“This is what we always talk about,” Arky said, “This is why the lights stay on, and the gate stays down. Just because one train passes and clears the intersection, it doesn’t mean that there is another train coming in the opposite direction.”
Arky mentioned the Jordan High student who was fatally killed by a TRAX train on April 18th and died similarly.
“We, please ask people to please wait until the gates go up, the lights go off, and the bells stop ringing,” Arky said.
#FrontRunner Update 8:22 PM: Continue to expect major delays due to a train vs trespasser incident. The 8:53 PM departure from Provo will be missed. For service between Salt Lake Central and Murray Central, use the TRAX Blue Line.
