Woman was under the influence of three drugs during fatal head-on crash

KEARNS, Utah – The woman who fatally hit another driver in January had three different drugs in her system, according to court documents.
In the arrest warrant, 31-year-old Iesha Deliras Fernandez crossed into oncoming traffic and hit 71-year-old Patrick Michael in his car on the night of Jan 20, 2022, at 4810 S 5600 West .
When police arrived at the crash, they found Fernandez waving down cars near the scene and entering a red car.
Police escorted Fernandez back to the scene, where she sat “on the ground where she kept rolling around asking for help,” according to the warrant. Officers noticed a pipe with marijuana that fell out of her pocket as she was rolling around.
They asked where the rest of the marijuana was, and she said she had no more. Police also asked why she was trying to leave, Fernandez said “she was not leaving but trying to get help.”
She had a bloody face and missing a couple of teeth when officers found her.
Michael’s foot was stuck in the car, and fire crews had to extricate him from the vehicle. He had several broken bones, internal bleeding, and damage to his organs.
According to court documents, Michael was sent to a local hospital for surgery but passed away due to his injuries.
Police searched Fernandez’s car and found a bag with marijuana, a glass bong, a meth pipe, and meth residue. A toxicology report on Fernandez found traces of amphetamine, meth, and THC in her system.
Fernandez is charged with :
- automobile homicide causing death under the influence,
- under the influence of a controlled substance,
- failure to stop at a serious accident,
- possession or use of the controlled substance,
- driving on a denied license
- and failing to operate a vehicle on the right side of the road.
Documents also note she has an outstanding warrant in Utah and is on probation for possessing a controlled substance.
