SANDY, Utah — A trip to the car wash took an unexpected turn, leaving several people hurt and cars damaged in Salt Lake County.
“Just going through a normal car wash just like any other day,” Nick Park said.
Some kind of malfunction had glass flying at Quick Quack Car Wash, located at 9750 South 700 East in Sandy, Tuesday afternoon.
“We get about halfway through it,” Park said. “The brushes that go across the top, something was really smacking hard. I didn’t think anything of it, but as it went behind my car, it busted out the whole windshield.”
Park, who is a spouse to a KSL TV journalist, experienced the malfunction first-hand.
“At that point, water is just pouring in. I’m at the wind tunnel and wind is just blowing glass all up and through the car.”
A couple cars ahead of him was occupied by a woman and her children.
“She’s got a couple of cuts on her,” Chris Mckinnis, the children’s grandmother said. “The paramedic said to take her up to get some stitches.”
The woman was taken to the hospital with multiple lacerations from the glass.
“Mom tried to reach up to close the sun roof because the kids like to watch the car wash through the sun roof and the glass just started shattering,” Mckinnis said.
“Unfortunately, it wasn’t shut down, so I had to wait until it was done while it was just blowing crap everywhere,” Park said.
Police believe some type of extension cord flew up from a truck, became entangled in one of the brushes, then started pelting the cars.
Something here doesn’t look right. I hope the injured mom is okay. I held her sweet baby while her husband filled out the paperwork for police. He says baby needs stitches. ☹️#QuickQuack #Sandy @quickquack pic.twitter.com/JggBpMabf2
