SLC Police investigating sexual assault allegation involving minor

SALT LAKE CITY – Police said Wednesday afternoon that they are investigating an alleged sexual assault that possibly occurred near Fairmont Park in Salt Lake City on May 21.

Officials with the Salt Lake City Police Department wrote in a statement that the allegation involves a minor.

“As such, the Salt Lake City Police Department is limited in what it can release. However, it is standard during any sexual assault investigation that a sexual assault forensic examination and forensic interviews be conducted by a trained sexual assault nurse examiner and detectives,” read the statement.

Police say the results for the forensic testing, verification and follow up investigative work “can vary in time and complexity and are not instantaneous.”

Additional details were not immediately available.
