OREM, Utah — Orem police officers shot at a man who they say shot at them first.
The shooting happened at about 7:30 this morning near 1000 South and 100 East in Orem.
This all began after a car accident in Orem.
Witnesses told police the driver got out of the car and walked away into a neighborhood.
Officers began looking for the man.

In the video from a home surveillance camera, you can see the man walking across a lawn just before an Orem police car goes by.
You don’t see what happened next, but you can hear it in the video.
There were several gunshots with officers yelling, “Shots fired! Shots fired!”
Officers weren’t hit, but they say the man was.
“He was injured,” said Orem Police Lt. Nick Thomas. “He went into a home that does not belong to him and does not know the owners.”

Police said the man barricaded himself in the house.
“We were able to talk with him, contact him, and get the homeowners out safely. He eventually came out and was transported to Utah Valley Medical Center,” said Lt. Thomas.
Another neighbor took a video of the man taken into an ambulance on a stretcher.
Now, the investigation into why begins.
Why did the man leave the accident scene?
Is he wanted by law enforcement?
How many shots were fired?
“There are several scenes, several witnesses, several people involved in this. As I said, multiple officers, so it’s a big area that’s being taken care of,” said Lt. Thomas.
The man’s name has not been released as of late Saturday afternoon.
