UHP confiscates $1.1 million of meth in traffic stop

IRON COUNTY, Utah — A minor traffic stop on I-15 in Iron County led to the discovery of $1.1 million in meth.
Troopers noticed a Volkswagen Jetta was driving too close to a truck last Saturday on I-15..
They searched the car and found 30 packages of meth stuffed in the gas tank.
Troopers said each package weighed about one pound.
A probable cause statement said, “This methamphetamine is a substantial amount. It has a street value of 556,000 to 1.1 million (once it) is split up and distributed in the Iron County area.”
Troopers arrested 42-year-old Javier Lopez.
Lopez was charged with possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute, possession of methamphetamine, paraphernalia, and following too close.
Lopez told officers he was paid to smuggle the drugs into Utah.
