SALT LAKE CITY – Children up to 18 years of age in Salt Lake City can eat breakfast and lunch for free this summer at schools and parks throughout the city.

The Salt Lake City School District announced the program’s details for 2022 in a press release, saying their Summer Food Service Program will begin Tuesday, June 7th.

The specific hours and dates of service vary by location and all sites will be closed Monday, June 10, Monday, July 4, and Monday, July 25, 2022, according to the school district.

Federal waivers allowed the program to provide take-home meals, curbside service, serve both breakfast and lunch simultaneously, and to allow adults to pick up meals without the child present. The district explained that those waivers have ended and the program will not have the ability to provide those flexible options this summer.

“Moving forward, each child must be present to personally select food components and consume their meal on site (exception: a piece of fruit can be taken home),” the school district’s press release said. “We appreciate your support in following these federal rules so we can continue this valuable service to our community.”
