Garbage truck hits seven unoccupied cars in ‘mechanical failure’

BOUNTIFUL, Utah — A garbage truck struck and totaled seven unoccupied cars in the parking lot of Ramblin’ Roads Family Restaurant at 544 W. 400 North according to West Bountiful Police.
On Friday around 10:12 a.m. a garbage truck operated by R.S. Disposal was exiting Interstate 15 northbound on the 400 North off ramp in West Bountiful when it failed to navigate the curve, and traveled over the center median, hitting seven cars in the parking lot.
The driver of the garbage truck, a 66-year-old man, was treated for minor injuries on the scene.
A safety inspection was conducted on the truck and found the car had inoperable brakes and other safety violations.
According to police, “the driver received a citation for the violations and was released from the scene.”
Assistant Chief Dave Edwards, with Bountiful Police Department confirmed it was a “mechanical failure.”
No other injuries were reported.
