PAYSON, Utah – A Payson family is kickstarting summer fun by hiding geodes for the community to find.
Blake Hudson started rock-hounding a few years ago.
While it’s fun digging up geodes in places like the Dugway Geode Bedd, he said it’s more fun hiding them for his community to find in Hollow Park.
“You’re cracking something open, like ‘Oh, it’s a little treasure inside!’ That’s awesome,” Hudson said.
In the past, he would be walking the trail and see at least 30 to 50 people looking for geodes.
“It just really blew up, and I feel like people from other cities came to find geodes, and it was awesome. It was really fun. I met a lot of people, and it was fun to see kids just really be excited,” Hudson expressed.
He said recently, when hiding geodes, he did so on three different “levels.”
Level one included hiding them on the side of the trail “Easter egg style.”
Level two meant hiding them under areas near things like rocks and logs.
Level three was the toughest, with a cut and polished geode which holds a clue inside that takes the finder on another adventure to find a hidden treasure.
“Especially like the last couple years with the pandemic and everything, and all the problems we hear about, it’s really important for us to focus on our communities and keep things small because you can get really overwhelmed,” said Hudson.
