Kearns shelter in place lifted, suspect in custody

KEARNS, Utah — A shelter in place has been lifted after it was issued around 7 p.m. while police searched for an armed teen.
According to Melody Cutler with Unified Police, police were searching for an 18 year old who fired a gun around his home, in the area of 6083 S. Longmore, Kearns.
Officers were flagged down just before 6 p.m. after an 18 year old got in a fight with his family, pulled out a gun, and shot at his 12-year-old sibling, but missed.
Police said he pointed the firearm at another family member and then fled.
The Kearns Olympic Oval was placed on lockdown, as was the area around the Kearns Recreation Center. K-9 units from Unified, West Jordan and Kearns were brought in, as well as a DPS helicopter.
The suspect was located and brought into custody at approximately 7:30 p.m.
No other details were immediately available.
