Kidnapping fugitive in custody after car chase in Taylorsville

TAYLORSVILLE, Utah – A fugitive wanted for aggravated kidnapping and assault led police on a car chase Monday afternoon.
According to Taylorsville Police Sgt Orin Neal, Alexis Acosta, 51, was noticed driving a reported stolen car near 2700 West 4700 South around 4:50 p.m.
Police attempted a traffic stop on 5400 South 3000 West, but Acosta fled from them in the car.
“We went through Taylorsville, West Valley, back through Taylorsville again, then into West Jordan,” Neal told KSL-TV. “The driver pulled into the parking lot of a strip mall and surrendered.”
Neal also noted that Acosta was going 70 to 80 mph and around 105 mph on Interstate 215.
Acosta told police in a Post-Miranda interview that who stole the car from his friend that owed him money for work.
A woman was in the car with Acosta, but she was not involved with the stolen car or his past crimes, according to Neal.
Acosta was wanted for violating a protective order, assault, aggravated kidnapping, and aggravated assault.
He is booked in the Salt Lake County jail for failure to respond to an officer’s signal to stop and receive or transfer a stolen vehicle.
