Woman in custody after Herriman SWAT situation

HERRIMAN, Utah — Police say a woman who broke into a Herriman home and threatened to kill officers has been taken into custody.

Deputy Chief Cody Stromberg with the Herriman Police Department said SWAT officers were deployed to the area of 11850 S. Rushmore Park Lane Thursday morning.

“A neighbor observed a female break a back window of a residence and enter that residence,” he said, and officials added the family that lives in the home was on vacation at the time.

Officers had previously dealt with the woman during a call at a nearby Taco Bell where she had caused a disturbance, Stromberg said.

At that point, officers knew she was armed with at least a knife.

Patrol officers entered the home, made contact with the woman and confronted her before less-lethal munition was deployed.

Stromberg said the woman then retreated into a bedroom and began barricading herself and threatening to kill officers.

SWAT officers were deployed to the area and police continued to try and contact the woman to negotiate a peaceful surrender.

Around 12:30 p.m., a “flashbang device” was deployed as part of the SWAT team’s tactics. The woman was taken into custody, and police said she was taken to an area hospital.
