One man critically hurt after ‘chaotic scene’ in Salt Lake City, police say

SALT LAKE CITY — A man is in the hospital after being assaulted Sunday morning in downtown Salt Lake City.
According to a Salt Lake City police statement, they responded to an assault in progress at 149 West Pierpoint Ave. around 1:51 a.m.
When officers arrived, “they found a chaotic scene with more than 100 people on the streets” and noticed a large fight outside the clubs.
Officers and private security on the scene attempted to break up the fight. However, the scene was so big that nearby patrol officers were called in to assist.
According to the statement, officers heard multiple gunshots during the fight and began searching for the shooter and any victims.
They found the 34-year-old man on the ground with “critical injuries” and began life-saving measures.
Paramedics couldn’t determine the cause of his injuries while on scene and transported him to a local hospital.
Doctors identified he was not shot and “was likely punched” by an unknown suspect during the fight.
The man is currently in the hospital with life-threatening injuries.
No arrests have been made during this incident.
Police are asking the public for information as most witnesses ran from the scene. You can call 801-799-3000 and reference case No. 22-129894.
