SALT LAKE CITY — Police are looking for a handgun after its owner accidentally shot himself and tossed it out a car window Monday morning.
In the media release, Salt Lake City police responded to a 19-year-old man with a gunshot wound on his leg at 300 West 1300 South around 7:11 a.m.
First responders arrived, began treatment for him, and transported him to the hospital in serious condition.
Police believe the man was manipulating the handgun while driving in this car when it fired and tossed it out the window.

They searched for the gun but were unable to find it.
Police said he tossed the handgun in the area of 1300 South from State Street to 300 West.
The gun was described to police as a “tan handgun” and should be considered loaded. Police ask if anyone finds it to call 9-1-1 and not touch it.
