UPDATE: Police say this incident started as an argument between a 41-year-old male victim and a 39-year-year male suspect regarding a suspected theft outside of Carl’s Jr. on August 1.

According to West Valley City police, the suspect shot at the victim and grazed his head. After that, the suspect ran from the scene where officers encountered him and was shot by a WVC PD officer outside of the Indoor Swap Meet.

The victim was treated at the scene and refused to go to the hospital.

The suspect is in the hospital in stable condition. Police will not release his identity until he is booked or charged with a crime.

WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah — Police say an officer shot a man suspected of shooting another man near a busy swap meet on Sunday.

West Valley City police told KSL TV that they were searching for a shooting suspect after a 41-year-old man was shot at a Carl’s Jr. parking lot near 3500 South Redwood Road around 1 p.m.

At about the same time, police found someone matching the suspect’s description next to an indoor swap meet near 1500 West 3500 South.

Three Taylorsville police officers and a West Valley City officer confronted the suspect. During the exchange, shots were fired and a WVC officer shot the suspect with his gun.

The adult male suspect was in serious condition at an area hospital, while the victim of the first shooting was in good condition, according to police. The victim was grazed in the head by a bullet.

Protocol Team One is handling the investigation.
