“I didn’t see it and I didn’t hear it,” said Gary Ellison, who lives across the street from the hit and run scene.
Neighbors who live along 4000 West say they’re used to seeing and hearing crashes.
Remnants of a deadly hit and run have left them shaken.
“Recycling can was still out and I come out to get it this morning and it was the yellow police caution tape in there,” Ellison said.
“I heard the big noise like a car hit something,” said Bruno Rodriguez Ramirez.
The vehicle that hit the child is outstanding. We are working to develop information about the type of vehicle. It will have some front end damage.
Investigators are gathering all evidence from the scene. We ask anyone with information about this case to call 801-840-4000. 2/2— WVC Police (@WVCPD) August 11, 2022
Around 11:40 p.m., Ramirez was leaving for his graveyard shift at work.
“There is somebody really screaming,” he said. “A lady was crying at that house right there.”
Across the street from his house, he said he saw a mother performing CPR on her young son.
Ramirez remembers him lying on the ground.
“It’s bad because I don’t know if he’s dead or not,” he said.
He remembers seeing a car take off right after the boy was hit.
“It’s sad. It’s really bad,” Ramirez said.
“If they catch him, I think they ought to go to jail and stay there,” Ellison said. “To me, that’s just plain recklessness.”
West Valley City police say they’re looking for a gray or silver Toyota Tacoma, or a truck that looks similar.
They said this vehicle has damage on its front end.
