TAYLORSVILLE, Utah — A man is in custody after fleeing from police in a stolen vehicle Tuesday night.
Sgt Kersdon Bennett of the Taylorsville Police said they noticed a reported stolen car being driven by a man in his late 30’s approximately 11:30 p.m.
Officers attempted to follow it without being noticed, but Bennett said the suspect fled in the car. Police pursued the vehicle through Murray and circled back to Taylorsville.
Bennett said officers attempted to spike the stolen car around 4375 South 1200 West, but the suspect crashed into a parked car to avoid the spikes and fled on foot.
Department of Public Safety helicopters, drones, and K-9 were called in to help find the suspect, according to Bennett.
Bennett said that when the suspect was found, he attempted to flee and was taken down by a K-9 unit and placed into police custody without further incident.
Bennett reminds the public not to leave running cars unattended as police are seeing more car thefts.
“It’s becoming way, way too common. We’re seeing it even more frequently. In my 18 years, it has just increased more and more and more,” he said.
