WEST JORDAN, Utah — With the cost of nearly everything rising, one local dentist wanted to help with the cost of back-to-school supplies by giving free backpacks to kids.
Apple Blossom Dental in West Jordan gave away 250 backpacks Friday for anyone in the community that needed one for school.
“We are getting down to limited amounts, but we still have some, so come and get one,” said Dr. Eric Whiting with Apple Blossom Dental.
Mercedes Rodriguez and her two kids came to the dentist office and said it helped knowing they could get a free backpack.
“Every little thing helps with everything going up these days,” she said.
Whiting said giving away the backpacks has been helpful to show kids it’s not scary going to the dentist.
“The dentist is a negative thing for them, so when they come in, they’re kind of scared. But once we bring them in and they warm up to the environment and come get a backpack, they’ve been really excited about it,” he said.
