EPHRAIM, Utah — A groundbreaking ceremony was held Saturday afternoon for the Ephraim Utah Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Church President Russell M. Nelson presided at the gathering. He was joined by his wife, Wendy, as well as Elder Walter F. González, a General Authority Seventy, and Elder Kevin R. Duncan, executive director of the Church’s Temple Department, and their wives.

Utah Gov. Spencer Cox and other government leaders were also in attendance.

The Ephraim Utah Temple was announced in May 2021 by President Nelson.

Officials said the three-story temple — which will cover approximately 39,000 square feet — will be built on a 9.16-acre site located at the intersection of 200 North and 400 East in Ephraim, Utah.

With the addition of the Ephraim Utah Temple, the Beehive State now has 28 temples in operation, under construction or renovation, or announced.

Other temple locations include: Bountiful, Brigham City, Cedar City, Deseret Peak, Draper, Heber Valley, Jordan River, Layton, Lindon, Logan, Manti, Monticello, Mount Timpanogos, Ogden, Oquirrh Mountain, Orem, Payson, Provo City Center, Provo, Red Cliffs, Salt Lake, Saratoga Springs, Smithfield, St. George, Syracuse, Taylorsville and Vernal.

Since President Nelson become prophet of the Church in 2018, he has announced the creation of 100 new temples.
