SANDY, Utah — A man is dead and a woman is hospitalized following a shooting Friday in Sandy.
The incident happened in the 2000 block of Oak Manor Drive at approximately 10:30 a.m.
Lt. Dean Carriger said responding officers found two victims on scene — a man and a woman — with gunshot wounds.
The woman, who is approximately 33 years old, was transported to IMC Hospital with a single gunshot wound, where she underwent surgery. Carriger said she is in stable condition.
The man, who is approximately 40 years old, was found dead on scene with a single gunshot wound.
“It appears the gunshot wound was self-inflicted, however, that cause of death will be determined by the medical examiner during autopsy,” Carriger said.
Police are still investigating the incident, including determining the relationship between the man and the woman. The victim’s identity has not been released at this time.
The shooting happened in close geographic and time proximity to the stabbing of a Sandy mother, apparently by her 11-year-old daughter. Carriger said it was a tragic and unusual day in Sandy.
