UTAH — Many Utahns are heading for higher ground this Labor Day weekend to find some relief from the record heat.
“Up here, it’s gorgeous,” said Jef Hein, walking around Silver Lake at Brighton on Sunday afternoon. “It’s nice and cool, especially in the shade. We were just commenting how wonderful it is, but down in the valley, it’s hotter than Hades.”
Sara Hartmann and her family came to fish up Big Cottonwood Canyon. She pointed out it’s noticeably cooler than the valley.
“It feels like 30 degrees, 20 degrees (cooler),” Hartmann said. “It feels like a whole other season.”
2022 has been Utah’s hottest summer on record.
“I think it’s pretty concerning,” Hein said. “We were just commenting as we were walking, to have this happening this late in the year, I hope this is a one-time occurrence, and I hope we get a lot of rainfall in the fall and the winter because we really need it.”
Salt Lake City’s forecasted high for the next three days is 103 degrees. Check KSL for the latest forecast for your area.
