SOUTH SALT LAKE, Utah — Police are searching for a group of burglars that ripped off the doors of a pawnshop and stole multiple guns early Friday morning.
According to South Salt Lake police spokeswoman Danielle Croyle, the suspects hooked a tow chain to their car and the 1st Cash Pawn & Gun Store doors on 3130 South State Street and pulled off the store doors.
The suspects ignored the valuable items in the pawnshop, took seven to nine handguns, and fled the scene, Croyle said.
The 1st Cash Pawn & Gun Store posted on social media that the suspects cut off all the power to the building before pulling off the doors with a 2010-2012 Cadillac SRX.
“From the time the vehicle appears and then later fled the scene is approximately 3 minutes because they hadn’t anticipated that all cameras and the security system was backup by battery,” reads the store’s post.
The store said the burglary caused massive damage inside and outside the building.
Croyle could not confirm the details that the 1st Cash Pawn & Gun Store posted. It’s unknown how many suspects were involved.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives is working with SSL PD on this case because of how many weapons were stolen.
