A Utah family is giving new meaning to the term, “family business.” Kollin Robertson was sworn in as a third-generation Utah Highway Patrol Trooper, the first third-generation trooper in Utah history.

According to a post by the Utah Highway Patrol, The Robertson’s family history began on Oct. 1, 1970, when Harmon F. (Boon) Robertson joined the department. He worked in the Kanab Port of Entry for several years until he was able to transfer out of the port and work in the field — still in Kane County.

He spent his entire career there as a trooper until he retired in 1991 and became a jail commander at the Kane County jail.

Harmon Robertson’s son, Scott Robertson, joined the Utah Highway Patrol in 1989 after working as a Kane County Sheriff’s Office deputy for three years. He was stationed in Hanksville and lived in Price and then Green River. He was promoted to senior trooper, sergeant and lieutenant.

Lt. Scott Robertson lives in Nephi and continues his highway patrol service today.

Scott Robertson’s son Kollin, was hired by UHP in May 2022. He graduated from POST on Sept. 8 and was sworn in as a Utah state trooper.

Kollin was a 2020 graduate of Juab High School and now continues his online studies at Southern Utah University.

According to the post, “Kollin is the first 3rd generation trooper ever to be sworn in the department in its history. There has been a Robertson in uniform for the last 52 years!”

Kollin has been assigned to work in Beaver.
