Officials with the Utah Department of Public Safety said a 2008 GMC pickup was traveling westbound on S.R. 14 when it drifted over the center line and clipped a trailer being pulled by a 2012 Ford F350. The GMC pickup then lost control as it continued westbound, eventually crossing completely over into the eastbound lane. It then struck a Kia Soul, which was occupied by a mother and her two children in the rear seat, who were all restrained.
The oldest child, identified as a 7-year-old, sustained injuries in the crash, according to DPS, and later died.
DPS said the other occupants in that vehicle were transported in stable condition, while the driver of the GMC pickup was flown by medical helicopter in critical condition.
Both east and westbound lanes were closed for three hours while troopers conducted their investigation.
The identity of the victim has not been released.
